Hønsepigen Kwami lever i en spiralverden bestående af 14 planeter. Hun drømmer om at blive optaget på Akademiet for Portvogtere. Men da hun ikke er forudbestemt til optagelse må hun først bekæmpe de onde kræfter der truer spiralverdenen.
