The ending is so open to interpretation and the characters are well rounded and it’s such a controversy. A total must-read, and the author’s note at the end is worth a read too

Adults and kids! What a wonderful thing! – to discuss.
Schools across the country make it part of their required reading. Christian churches use it as part of their religious curriculum. And at the same time, countless people give it as a Bar Mitzvah gift.
