Peter Donders was a priest from Holland who volunteered in the 19th century for missionary work in Dutch Guiana (Surinam). There he worked among lepers and African slaves with great compassion for their plight. After nearly twenty years he met some Redemptorists and joined their community. He was a very dedicated, humble, and fascinating man. This book tells his life story.
This is volume 7 in the English series of Readings in Redemptorist Spirituality sponsored by the Center for Redemptorist Spirituality of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. It includes the first English translation of his letters and other writings and articles on the spirituality of this holy man written by Redemptorists – a historian and a theologian – at the time of his beatification in 1982.
Readers will truly be inspired by the life Blessed Peter Donders and will find in him a model of someone who trusted unfailingly in God’s providence.
