Andrea Beaty

Andrea Beaty is an American children's author renowned for engaging picture books that inspire curiosity and creativity. She is best known for her Questioneers series, which includes popular titles like Rosie Revere, Engineer (2013) and Ada Twist, Scientist (2016), both New York Times bestsellers.

Born in Benton, Illinois, Beaty grew up in a small southern town, a close-knit community where everyone knew each other and their pets. "We spent our summer days traipsing through the fields and forests hunting for adventure," she recalls.

Her love for storytelling was evident from a young age as she devoured Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden mysteries before moving on to Agatha Christie novels and classic literature.

Beaty attended Southern Illinois University, where she studied Biology and Computer Science. After completing her degree, she worked for a software company, a role that involved technical support and writing. Reflecting on this experience, Beaty said, "I didn't know at the time, but tech writing was great training for writing for kids because it taught me to be a fierce self-editor."

With the help of illustrator David Roberts, she creates books known for their charming characters, innovative narratives, and vibrant illustrations. The Junior Library Guild has selected seven of her works.

Titles such as Iggy Peck, Architect (2007) and Sofia Valdez, Future Prez (2019) celebrate young protagonists who are clever, bold, and eager to solve problems. These stories not only entertain but also encourage children to embrace STEM subjects.

In 2014, she received the Prairie State Award for Excellence in Children's Writing from the Illinois Reading Council. Her books have also been included in various notable lists by the American Library Association.

Andrea Beaty currently resides in Naperville, Illinois, where she continues to write and enjoy gardening.
