Should This Life Sometime Deceive You by Alexander Pushkin is a brief but enduring meditation on disappointment, patience, and the changing nature of life.
Written in the form of gentle advice to someone facing hardship, the poem reminds us that sorrow and frustration are not permanent. Pushkin urges the reader to meet difficult moments without bitterness, trusting that time can alter circumstances and that happiness may return when least expected.
Simple, direct, and quietly philosophical, the poem explores a timeless question: how should we respond when life does not unfold as we hoped?
Rather than promising that suffering can be avoided, Pushkin offers a more resilient perspective—accept the difficult moment, remain patient, and allow life to change.
A concise classic of Russian poetry, Should This Life Sometime Deceive You is a thoughtful reflection on patience, resilience, and maintaining perspective through adversity.
