A través del protagonista, un joven que regresa al pueblo desde una gran ciudad, atribulado y cargado de unos conocimientos y reflexiones que le han convertido en un pesimista hastiado de la vida, y de su encuentro con una sencilla muchacha de su pueblo, todo optimismo y sencillez, el autor nos propone una fábula sobre la necesidad de atender al mundo y a la razón, sobre el valor curativo de la belleza, y sobre la búsqueda de la felicidad.
