Robinson Crusoe is a novel by Daniel Defoe published on April 25, 1719. During its first edition, Robinson Crusoe was listed as the author so many people thought he was a real person and this novel was like an account of his travels. But this story is said to be based on the real-life experiences of Scottish castaway Alexander Selkirk who lived for four years on an island called Mas a Tierra which has now been renamed Robinson Crusoe Island. This novel is about Crusoe’s tumultuous journey after his ship got wrecked in a storm until he was able to come back to England. His adventures have continuously appealed to many readers, especially young adults who are inspired by the hero’s inventive resourcefulness and survival tactics. By the end of the 19th century, no book had ever had more editions, spin-offs, and translations than Robinson Crusoe which is a testament to how great this novel is.
