When our detective star Carlton Davies is called to the home of Ruth Darwin late at night, he once again can't help questioning what it was that forced her to marry Phillip Darwin, a powerful banker. Ruth and he and been engaged until suddenly she broke off the engagement. Hinting at some sort of extortion, Carlton once more takes up the search to find out what it was only to find Ruth with a (literally) smoking gun in her hand...
