GeAnn Powers

GeAnn Powers is an American author best known for her work in epic fantasy. Her most notable series, The Year of the Firefly, includes The String Bean and the Firefly (2021), The Keeper and the Firefly, and The Rapha and the Firefly. GeAnn Powers creates rich, imaginative worlds that draw readers into tales of adventure and transformation, and her debut novel introduces a vibrant realm of elves, fairies, and mystical encounters.

Powers spent her early years as an "urban gypsy," moving with her family through several cities in six states. Her upbringing as the daughter of a "rainbow hunter and a bridge burner" influenced her wandering lifestyle until the age of twenty, when her family settled in Kansas. There, Powers met her future husband and ended her nomadic life.

She described the change by saying, "When I finally stopped moving, I could hear the voices in my head and the stories they had to tell.

The rolling Kansas countryside became fertile ground for her imagination, with the back roads and hidden groves inspiring the fantastical settings of her works. Powers credits the quiet streams and small Ozarks of Kansas as the birthplace of her fairy realm.

Her debut novel, The String Bean and the Firefly, tells the story of Ariel, a fairy princess trapped in a life of fear and servitude, and Basil, a young elf passionate about knowledge. Their lives are forever changed when a chance encounter at a spider's web intertwines their destinies.

Powers expanded the world of her first book with further installments in The Year of the Firefly series, continuing to explore themes of resilience, transformation, and unexpected connections.

GeAnn Powers currently resides in Michigan with her husband and three sons and maintains that her heart remains in the serene landscapes of Kansas.
